It carries all eleven Chapters, I to XI, and all 194 section entries, covering sections 1 to 266 together with sections 19A and 178A. The edition is published for the AIBE-XXII (22) cycle, whose paper is set for 29th November 2026. Printed without notes, comments, annotations or commentary, the volume is in the form the Bar Council of India permits candidates to carry into the AIBE examination hall. The statutory text is freely available; what this edition supplies is that permitted form, the amendment currency and the apparatus that makes a provision quick to reach. The AIBE paper sets 100 questions in 3 hours 30 minutes, a little over two minutes a question, and Contract, Specific Relief, Property and Negotiable Instruments carries 8 of the 100 marks across four statutes, of which this is the first. Three things cost time in an open-book hall. Finding the section is answered by the nine-page section-wise contents and by a section number in the running head on every page after the first. Confirming that the words in front of you are the amended words is answered by twenty-four footnotes, twenty-three of which name the instrument behind a change and, where one was appointed, the date it took effect. Establishing which provisions have gone is answered by two ranges carried as single marked entries rather than dropped from the numbering. The volume prints no “law stated as on” line. The latest change in force is made by the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act 2019, from 31st October 2019. Before it the record runs back through the State Banks (Repeal and Amendment) Act 2018, the Banking Laws (Amendment) Act 2012, the Indian Contract (Amendment) Act 1996 and, further back, the Adaptation of Laws Orders of 1937 and 1950, the Indian Partnership Act 1932, the Repealing and Amending Acts of 1914 and 1917, the Indian Contract (Amendment) Acts of 1899 and 1930 and the Amending Act 1891. One change is carried but is not yet law: the Mediation Act 2023 substitutes Exceptions 1 and 2 to section 28, and its footnote marks that as taking effect from a date yet to be notified, with the wording it would replace reproduced beneath. This book is intended for the following audience: AIBE-XXII (22) Candidates—who sit the paper on 29th November 2026 and need this Act in the permitted form, on one of the highest-weighted heads on the syllabus Final-year Law Students—studying the law of contract, where the section numbers are the unit of study and the omitted ranges explain where the sale of goods and partnership law went Advocates—who need the section, the instrument behind its present wording and the date it took effect at the point of reference Coaching Institutes and Law Libraries—stocking a current, pocket-sized text of the Act for the AIBE cycle Commercial Juniors and Researchers—working against a statute whose text has been left almost untouched since 1872 and whose few changes are precisely locatable The Present Publication is the 2026 Edition, carrying the amended and updated text of the Indian Contract Act 1872, published in Taxmann's Bare Act without Comments series for the AIBE, with the following noteworthy features: [Permitted Form] Printed without notes, comments, annotations or commentary, in the form the Bar Council of India permits candidates to carry into the examination hall [Complete Act] All eleven Chapters, I to XI, and all 194 section entries, covering sections 1 to 266 together with sections 19A and 178A, with the Schedule kept in place as a marked omitted entry [Updated & Amended] Twenty-four footnotes carry the entire amendment record, twenty-three of them naming the instrument behind a change, current to the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act 2019, in force from 31st October 2019 [The Whole Apparatus on One Page] A statute of 1872 with an amendment record of twenty-four footnotes in a single run, short enough to read through before the paper rather than searched under time pressure [Not Yet in Force, Kept Apart] The Mediation Act 2023 substitutes Exceptions 1 and 2 to section 28 with effect from a date yet to be notified; the footnote says so and reproduces the wording the change would replace [Omitted Ranges Kept in Place] Sections 76 to 123 stand as one marked entry naming the Sale of Goods Act 1930, and sections 239 to 266 as another naming the Indian Partnership Act 1932, so the numbering never breaks [Section-wise Contents] A nine-page contents listing every section entry by number and marginal heading under its Chapter [Running Heads] A section number in the running head on all 52 pages after the opening one, so a reference given as a section number is found by turning rather than by reading The structure of the book is as follows: The volume opens with a nine-page section-wise contents, then the Act as assented to on 25th April 1872 Chapters run I to XI: communication and revocation of proposals; contracts, voidable contracts and void agreements; contingent contracts; performance; certain relations resembling those created by contract; consequences of breach; sale of goods, now omitted; indemnity and guarantee; bailment; agency; and partnership, now omitted Sections run under their marginal headings, with inserted and substituted matter set in square brackets and keyed to the footnote that records it Chapter VII appears as a single marked entry for sections 76 to 123, and Chapter XI as one for sections 239 to 266 Footnotes sit at the foot of the page in a single numbered run, keyed to superscript markers Four notes point from a statute this Act refers to, to its successor: three starred notes outside the numbered run, two for the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 and one for the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam 2023, and one numbered footnote for section 2(72) of the Companies Act 2013 The Schedule is kept in place as a marked omitted entry; the text ends on printed page 53 Read more

https://universalreads.com/products/taxmanns-indian-contract-act-1872-bare-act-without-comments-aibe-provides-the-complete-amended-aibe-compliant-text-of-indias-contract-law-in-a-clear-format
