Product Description
Shrimad Bhagavata Mahapurana in English — the "ripe fruit of the Vedic wish-fulfilling tree": Maharshi Vedavyasa's final and most complete work, containing the philosophy of pure bhakti and the complete life of Lord Krishna, now accessible to the global Hindu diaspora and English-speaking seekers worldwide. The Shrimad Bhagavata Mahapurana — called 'nigama-kalpa-taror galitam phalam' (the ripe fruit of the Vedic wish-fulfilling tree) — is Maharshi Vedavyasa's final and most complete work, composed after he had already produced the Vedas, Upanishads, and Mahabharata but still felt spiritually incomplete. Narrated by Shukadeva Goswami to King Parikshita over seven days as the king lay dying from a snake curse, its 18,000 shlokas across 12 Skandhas and 335 chapters encompass the complete philosophy of consciousness, devotion, and liberation. The 10th Skandha alone — 4,000 shlokas in 90 chapters — narrates the complete life of Lord Krishna from his birth in a prison cell through his childhood in Vrindavana, his victories in Mathura, and his final years in Dwaraka. The 11th Skandha contains the Uddhava Gita — Krishna's final philosophical teaching to his beloved disciple, which many Vedantins consider the equal of the Bhagavad Gita in depth. For the global Hindu diaspora and English-speaking seekers worldwide, this English edition makes the Bhagavata's entire treasury available for the first time in their own language with the depth it deserves. The complete text in this set covers all 12 Skandhas. The Bhagavata's central teaching — beautifully summarised in the phrase "bhakti? para-anur?ga? ??vare" (bhakti is supreme love of God) — runs through every narrative. Dhruva's devotion that moved the cosmos, Prahlada's faith that overcame a demon king, Gajendra's surrender that brought Vishnu running, the Rasa Leela's philosophical mystery — each story is an experiential demonstration of what pure devotion accomplishes. Dashama Skandha — complete Krishna Leelas from birth through Dwaraka Uddhava Gita (11th Skandha) — Krishna's final and most profound philosophical teaching Traditional illustrations — major divine episodes depicted Format: Granthakaar/Large Edition Ideal for: Bhagavata Saptaha, Janmashtami, systematic Purana study, year-round gifting — diaspora Diwali season (October-November) sees peak demand gifting About This Edition This English edition from Gita Press, Gorakhpur brings India's most sacred scriptures to English-speaking readers worldwide — the Hindu diaspora in the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, and Southeast Asia, as well as students of comparative religion, Indology, and world philosophy.
