Product Description

1. Before the Engineer can wrestle with the details for carrying out the Design, Construction, Load-capacity Evaluation, Load-testing and the Costing of a Bridge, he/she must be guided and goaded in to clearly understanding the GUIDING PRINCIPLES in these disciplines. 2. It is with a view to assisting in this that the Author took it on himself to layout the guiding principles in this book in the form of a gainfully useful MANUAL to help that engineer to see the 'day-light' in order to venture in to these formidable disciplines. 3. After introducing the subject, the Manual then asks 'CAN DESIGN BE TAUGHT ?' It then describes, very lucidly, the 'A to Z' of all that is involved in preparing a DPR (Detailed Project Report) in a workman-like manner. Explains the nitty gritty for estimating the Maximum Flood Discharge of the river and the consequent Maximum Scour Depths at the Piers and Abutments, the Effective Linear waterway and the Afflux. 4. This done, the Manual then defines the various Components of the Bridge as a Structure. An extensive description of the Guiding Principles is presented in ANNEXURES D to M at the end. 5. The reader is then 'held by the finger' and lead in to the realms of Bridge Construction Techniques, the Load-capacity Evaluation of existing Bridges, the actual Load-testing of Bridges, and the Monitoring of Bridge-Performance. A 'window' is then opened in to the domain of 'Accelerated Construction of Bridges' where the 'Time' itself is costlier than the 'Cost' !! 6. The Engineer - who can no doubt now work out the Cost of the Bridge from the Quantities worked out from the detailed Drawings and Unit Rates at a given 'location' of the Bridge in a country - is then shown the TRICKS and TOOLS of 'how to quickly Estimate' a very Approximate Cost of almost ALL types of Bridges in (almost) any Country around the WORLD - literally without going there !!
